Patches of darkness around the eye along with puffiness is a sign of either ill health or mainly lack of sleep but other factors like dehydration or even allergies do exists. Under eye dark circles and eye puffiness become more common as people age, due to the skin thinning around the eyes and under eye blood vessels becoming more visible.
For younger people who experience dark circles under the eyes, this could be due to a person not getting enough rest, an insufficient diet, or bad habits such as smoking or drinking too much.
